The Monona Grove School District is getting a new, state-of-the-art middle school.
After months of debate, counter proposals and talk of a split, voters in the geographically divided district approved spending $29 million for a new school in Cottage Grove and improvements to other schools in Cottage Grove and Monona.
For School Board President John Kitslaar, who narrowly retained his seat Tuesday, the approval of the middle school and the money to operate the facility means the knot in his stomach over the future of a united district can finally come untied.
