While people in most of the developed world are still waiting to see next generation networks (NGNs) roll into their neighborhoods, the wait for many people in the Siberian cities of Omsk and Novokuznetsk is over: NGN's have come to the frigid region of Siberia.
Interestingly, the first two NGNs in Siberia pit Nortel and Siemens against each other, with each providing the gear for one of the cities to units of Siberian Telco Sibirtelecom. It's not clear whether Sibirtelecom considers the choice of competing vendors for the two cities a shoot-out that will determine who gets future business.
