Apr. 7--A proposal to raise the environmental cleanup fees of dry cleaners in Illinois has roiled a group that represents 1,400 Korean-American dry cleaners statewide, who contend that the increase would bankrupt mom-and-pop shops. Members of the Drycleaner Environmental Response Trust Fund of Illinois, a state-appointed council that licenses dry cleaners and provides financial assistance to clean up sites contaminated by chemical spills, are scheduled to vote on the increase Friday at its monthly meeting.
