Wary Volusia OKs study of toll road: The County Council votes 4-2 to let an Orlando-based board review the rural route.

Apr. 7--DeLAND -- The Volusia County Council on Thursday breathed new life into a possible toll road linking State Road 417 in Seminole County to Interstate 95 near New Smyrna Beach.

In a 4-2 vote, the council told the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority to move ahead with a feasibility study looking at the road, which critics fear would open up a rural area for intense development and harm the environment.

Thursday's vote is the latest in a series of quick actions regarding the toll road, which have caught many council members and residents by surprise.
