Attempting to ease the way for negotiating gaming contracts with the state, the California Nations Indian Gaming Association is working on guidelines to govern tribal-state compacts.
CNIGA has been working for close to a year on developing these guidelines to help tribes reach agreement with the state on gaming interests, according to Susan Jensen, communications director for the group.
"There's a fine line," Jensen told NAR. "Each compact needs to be unique to each tribe's needs," she said. And with 107 federally recognized tribes in California, "it's tough to find something that works for everyone," she said.
