Arange of cutting tools that have an innovative cellular structure has been introduced by Kyocera Cutting Tools, a division of Kyocera Corp, Japan.
The cutting tools--which are part of the company's Ceratip range--are made using a technique Kyocera has developed called Cell Fiber Technology. This is based on a simple principle: cells, whose outer wall consists of a relatively soft, fibrous material that is resistant to cutting, are filled with hard, wear-resistant material. These are then processed into a matte and several mattes into a block, which when pressed and sintered forms a lightweight, extremely hard-wearing material. This is then used to produce the ...
