In 1997, John Stewart Socha was president of Audio Computer Information, a company that produced tutorial tapes for newcomers to the high-tech world. At that time, Socha decided to branch out his business focus into a very different direction. He hit on the idea to create a gag gift product that could be used as a PR fundraising tool by animal rights and rescue organizations involving in spaying pets: Kitty Kondoms.
