Apr. 12--NORMAN -- Vandals tore pieces off the hat brim, chipped a nose and damaged a shoulder on the newly carved statue of Abe Andrews in the city park at 201 W Daws St., officials said.
The carving of Andrews, for whom the park was named, will be repaired as soon as chain saw sculptor Clayton Coss of Inola can find a good day to get back to Norman to do it, park planner Jim Polston said Tuesday.
The statue, carved from a dying sycamore tree in January, will be dedicated on '89er Day, April 22, if repairs are made in time, Polston said.
