His history -- I met him 22 years ago when he was throwing a New York soiree honoring James Beard, Craig Claiborne and Julia Child -- is that of a full-flavor guy. When his colleagues at Cook's Illustrated, the magazine he founded, approached Kimball a few years ago with the idea of doing a cookbook of light fare, he resisted.
