John M. Christopherson of St. Paul, a lifelong sports star and member of Alcoholics Anonymous who helped others in their battle, died April 5 of stomach cancer. He was 63.
Christopherson grew up in West St. Paul with his aunt and uncle. While in elementary school, he found that he loved sports, and excelled in football, hockey, basketball and baseball. As a student at St. Thomas Academy, Christopherson was named all-state in basketball and baseball in 1960 and helped both teams to state Catholic school titles that year.
