Carver County prosecutors are asking churches for help in preventing financial crimes against the elderly.
County Attorney Michael Fahey is adopting a program that was started in Denver called Communities Against Senior Exploitation (CASE). It relies on places of worship to educate older residents on how to avoid being victims. At training sessions later this month, clergy will learn about common scams against the elderly and how to prevent them.
The program makes sense for Carver County, Fahey said, because its senior population is growing quickly and its wealth makes it a likely target for scam artists.
