Florence, Colo.-- This community west of Pueblo is already home to three huge federal prisons, and the Colorado state prison is a few miles further west in Canon City. Now, a private prison could be added to the mix if city officials decide they can supply water to the facility.
Consultant Nolin Renfrow, who initially supported construction of a private prison by MTC of Utah, said that the company decided the proposal was too costly and backed out. Now, however, he reports another company -- GEO based in Boca Raton, Fla. -- is interested in building a 3,000-bed private prison that would contract the beds to the Colorado Department of Corrections ...
