Like all good Pinot noir stories, this is a quest story, a search for the Holy Grail. In this case, the Grail is a piece of ground, inland from the Pacific, on the north bank of the eccentric, twisting path of the Santa Ynez River. If this were a love story, it would be one of love gained, love lost, and love regained. As it is a Grail (subset Pinot noir) story, this story is one of good ground gained, good ground lost, and good ground regained.
