IN NIGERIA, it is only recently that reports on juvenile delinquents have begun to surface. Madaki (1985) reported that the incidence of juvenile delinquency in the Plateau State, located in the northern part of Nigeria, cannot be explained solely on the basis of family size. Madaki observed that several factors were associated with juvenile delinquency, including interaction with undesirable companions or gangs, exposure to modernity in the cities, broken and unstable families, poverty, and the influence of the media.
