Rattlesnakes.
Those slithering slimy creatures that lie in wait for unsuspecting humans - usually cowboys in old Westerns - and then strike, sinking their sharp teeth deep into the flesh until their poison causes an excruciating death.
They are the stuff of nightmares, phobias and horror movies. Snakes are so diabolical that, as the story goes, one even charmed poor Eve into eating that apple.
Not so, said Rob Carmichael, curator of the Wildlife Discovery Center at Elawa Farm in Lake Forest. The center is featuring an exhibit about rattlesnakes called "The Grass is Rattling."
