Baseball gave us Bob Uecker. Basketball is providing Paul Shirley.
There is something to be said about being one of the top players in a sport. But sometimes it's not too bad being at the bottom rung.
Take a look at Uecker, who batted .200 from 1962 to 1967 and has been quipping about it ever since. Now, there's Shirley, a 12th man in the NBA from 2002 to 2005 who is capitalizing on his former obscurity.
Shirley has gone Hollywood. In fact, he was sitting in a middle courtside seat at a recent Los Angeles Clippers game, with a better view than Staples Center staple Billy Crystal.
