"ON A CLEAR DAY"
Rated PG-13. At AMC Loews Harvard Square.
Grade: C
You might feel waterlogged, not to mention exhausted, just watching Peter Mullan swim the English Channel in "On a Clear Day."
This Scots-inflected hymn is meant to be a rousing, little-guy-finds-his-way film. It isn't.
Mullan is Frank Redmond, a Glasgow shipbuilder who is laid off at age 55. During a time when the middle-aged are being early-retired everywhere, a movie that celebrates accomplishment and persistence should be inspiring.
