Apr. 15--The old, rugged cross made its way down Plumas Street on Friday, carried by willing individuals who took turns dragging the 80-pound object nearly 2 miles. Called "The Way of Suffering," the annual walk with the cross is meant to represent Good Friday, which Christians refer to as the day Jesus Christ was crucified. Before leaving the fountain in Yuba City's Town Center, co-coordinator and organizer Steve Abshier said he was looking forward to the ninth annual event, created by local Pastor John Sheppard and friends Gene and Barbara Siemens in 1997.
