Apr. 15--Acorn Products Inc., parent of UnionTools, has been sold to Ames True Temper Inc., according to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
It's unclear how the sale will affect Acorn employees and operations in central Ohio. Ames "is not required to continue to employ" Acorn workers, according to documents filed with the SEC.
Acorn, founded in 1890 as Union Fork & Hoe, closed its Columbus manufacturing operations in 1999 and eliminated distribution jobs three years later as part of a restructuring.
Officials at Ames didn't return calls this week.
