Lesbians with physical disabilities: a qualitative study of their experiences with counseling.

In a survey of 1,925 lesbians who responded to the National Lesbian Health Care Survey, Bradford, Ryan, and Rothblum (1994) found that 73% of the respondents had seen or were currently seeing a mental health counselor at the time they completed the survey. Although a similar study has not been conducted about women with physical disabilities, it seems likely that they will be seen by counselors as a result of their need for rehabilitation services. Despite this potential involvement with mental health professionals, there is very little professional literature about counseling lesbians with physical disabilities and virtually none that is empirically based.
