Green space is coming to the downtown Minneapolis riverfront.
The Minneapolis City Council unanimously approved on Friday a privately funded park along the Mississippi River, favoring open space over competing proposals for condos and retail development on the last piece of city-owned land on the downtown riverfront.
"This is the opportunity of a lifetime," said Council Member Lisa Goodman, who lives downtown and represents the area.
The park, adjacent to the new Guthrie Theater, is the brainchild of Dr. William McGuire, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, who has pledged to spend as much as $5 million on ...
