Apr. 18--A drug designed to prevent bone fractures lowered the risk of breast cancer just as well as the medication doctors have relied on for years - and with fewer side effects - in women whose chances of developing the disease are high. Raloxifene, an osteoporosis drug sold as Evista, reduced the risk of invasive breast cancer by 50 percent, just like tamoxifen, the most widely sold cancer drug in the world. Eight years ago scientists found that tamoxifen slashed the risk of breast cancer in half for healthy woman at high risk.
