Apr. 19--Kiatnakin Bank has reported first-quarter profits of 673.6 million baht for 2006, up from profits of 532.9 million the year before.

Net interest income rose modestly to 940.5 million baht in the first quarter compared with 902.4 million last year, while the bank took a 156.6 million charge for bad debt in the quarter compared with a 41.1 million item last year.

Non-interest income in the first quarter totalled 505.5 million baht, a sharp increase from the 287.3 million booked last year, when Kiatnakin also booked a 198.8 million charge for loan-impairment losses.
