Apr. 20--Although it is popular only in New York and California, the pick-six is the ultimate pari-mutuel wagering vehicle. Because of its difficulty and the large sums of money necessary for a proper approach it appeals to a small percentage of horseplayers, those willing to shoulder substantial risk and accept a low win percentage in return for potentially high if infrequent return. A large pick-six pool, one inflated by a carryover, boils down to sharks feeding on sharks.
