Apr. 21--How do you know it's springtime in Chicago? You know it when Chicagoans switch from whining about the cold to complaining that it's too hot, when air conditioners resume their blast in places where just the week before the heaters were set on high. "A little too hot for me," I heard some wimp whimper on one of those recent mild, bright days that since November had seemed as lost to possibility as the return of a dead loved one. How else do you know it's springtime in Chicago? You know it when you plant a few flowers and remember that, oh yeah, dirt is more than just the crud that coats your car.
