Apr. 21--Derrick Williams watched his Penn State teammates make their stretch run to the Big Ten championship last year and pretended to be excited.
The Nittany Lions traveled to Florida for the Orange Bowl, and Williams ached to play against Florida State. But team doctors held him out of the 26-23 triple overtime win so he could complete his recovery from a broken arm.
"It was very depressing," he said. "I've never been hurt before. I've never missed a game or even a practice. Joe (Penn State coach Joe Paterno) said, 'You could learn a lot from being injured.' I really didn't want to hear that."
