tip: Plant basil and mint in their own pots. Both can grow very large and may overwhelm other herbs.
1. Use a CONTAINER with a drainage hole. Any material works--terracotta, stone, galvanized tin, or polyethylene plastic--but avoid glazed terra-cotta pots. The glaze can contain lead, which may leach into your herbs. 2. Ask for GOOD-QUALITY POTTING SOIL that will drain well (often called grower's mix) at your local garden store. Since you'll be eating the herbs, avoid soil with chemical fertilizers (like Miracle-Gro). Stick with organic mixes. 3 Use a TABLESPOON--or your hands--to fill in soil around seedlings. 4.
