Article: Portugal's growth falls behind the euro area.

According to the latest available survey data from Portugal's National Statistics Institute (INE) (published March 17, 2006), private consumption is in the midst of a recovery. The recovery is evident, says INE, "in both the current consumption and the durable goods consumption."

In the graph above, Portugal's durable goods indicator is plotted in blue. It took a sharp plunge between August 2005 and September 2005. Economic activity, as can be seen in red in the graph above also declined, but not as sharply.
