VIOLENT criminals could have their movements restricted when they are released from prison in an effort to stop them committing further crimes, it was announced yesterday.
The new Violent Offender Orders will also place high-risk criminals on a national register, along the lines of the existing sex offenders' database.
Unveiling the plans, Home Secretary Charles Clarke told Parliament that they would boost public protection following a string of murders by offenders let out early from jail, including those of City financier John Monckton and schoolgirl MaryAnn Leneghan.
