Apr. 21--Now we know why Fort Wayne wanted to keep its legal bills in the Aqua Indiana case a big secret. The city has been throwing tons of taxpayer money down a deep, dark well and seems perfectly content to keep on wasting money in its wrongheaded quest to acquire the water utility. Fort Wayne has enough complicated issues to spend its finite resources on without seeking additional ones. It's time for the city to drop this foolish, costly debacle and move on. In play is not whether the city can take the private company -- it can -- but how it must proceed and how much time, effort and money it is willing to devote to it.
