21 APRIL 2006 CANBERRA (Pacnews) --- A member of Papua New Guinea's Defence Force Intelligence Service has revealed on an ABC Lateline programme that people of many nationalities, including Indonesians from Papua, are regularly being smuggled across the Torres Strait.
And he claimed that corrupt Australian officials are involved in the trade.
The PNG defence force intelligence officer, whose identity has been concealed, said Australia's northern border was porous. "People are being smuggled through Indonesia into Australia. The border has become a blind spot by both governments of Papua New Guinea and Australia."
