NEW YORK - Nasdaq Stock Market acquired a 15% stake in the London Stock Exchange for about $782 million, confirmed Silvia Davi, a spokeswoman for Nasdaq. The acquisition - consisting of 35.4 million shares sold by Threadneedle Asset Management and an additional 2.7 million from elsewhere - makes Nasdaq the LSE's largest shareholder.
Ms. Davi said exchange officials would not discuss the acquisition further. Threadneedle officials were not available for comment.
Last month, Nasdaq made an unsolicited offer to acquire the entire exchange for $4.2 billion but dropped the bid after London exchange officials rebuffed the offer.
