Apr. 24--When she started her freshman year at Mission Veterans Memorial High School, Nina Rodriguez began to get what many people consider a teenage rite of passage: Acne.

"Basically I thought, aThis sucks,'" said the now 17-year-old. "If someone tried to take a picture of me, I'd be like, aNo no.' " Make-up couldn't cover the problem, Rodriguez said, and over-the-counter remedies couldn't fix it. She said it frustrated her because acne damages your self-esteem as well as your appearance.

"If you're confident in the way you look you're more confident in the things that you do," she said. "(Acne) affects who you are."
