THE European cartel police have hit at industrial plastic bag producers and at rubber chemicals manufacturers. The European Commission has fined 16 bag companies a total of 290.71 million [euro] and four rubber chemicals companies 75.86 million [euro] for price fixing.
The bags investigation began after surprise inspections of producers in June 2002, and revealed that the companies had secretly agreed among themselves--some for more than 20 years--on sales prices in Germany, the Benelux countries, France and Spain.
