The national movement to put prairie grass and native plants on the roofs of public and private buildings has a new and influential advocate in the Twin Cities: Hennepin County Board Chairman Randy Johnson. Inspired by trips to Chicago, ground central for the North American green roof movement, Johnson says he believes the Twin Cities could be another green roof hotspot. He says he believes a green roof would transform the north plaza of the Hennepin County Government Center into a lively public gathering place, one that looks attractive and is environmentally responsible.
