With the development of a more cohesive approach to health-care reform, studies of the merits of other national health-care programs seem less relevant. Proposals calling for the adoption of a Canadian or a German solution no longer capture our attention as an American solution emerges. Still, we should not be too quick to dismiss lessons that can be learned from other health-care systems. Although we have identified a direction in health-care reform, myriad details need to be addressed, and many difficult decisions are yet to be confronted.
