Many states have recognized the importance of including economic education in the elementary school curriculum. According to Kourilsky (1986), large numbers of today's at-risk elementary school students will never reach high school. Without economics instruction during their elementary school years, these students are not likely to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for functioning successfully within the American economic system.
