Eric Mitchum glanced up at the Hayward Field scoreboard, waited for the results of his race to appear, and saw his name click into an unfamiliar place.
Second.
The Oregon senior, grinning broadly, directed a good-natured "Damn you" at former Howard University athlete David Oliver as he congratulated the guy who beat him at the tape in the 110-meter hurdles in the Oregon Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Mitchum wasn't surprised at the result that had flashed on the scoreboard, though he lost by only three hundredths of a second.
