Technologies boost battery life: new solutions cut power consumption in mobile phones, sensors, and cameras.(Texas Instruments eZ430-F2013 smallest microcontroller)(National Semiconductor Corp.'s PowerWise technology )

Increasingly, product designers are facing a power dilemma. Many are adding graphically intensive features that call for more processing power, hence, more electrical current consumption. Others simply want to control current consumption during long "sleep" modes, thus enabling their products to go for longer time periods between battery changes.

"As you add new features, battery life tends to go down," notes Ravi Ambatipudi, director of advanced technology for National Semiconductor. "Yet, you're very often faced with the challenge of maintaining battery life, or even improving it."

To help product developers accomplish that, electronics' vendors are offering ...
