A 58-year-old woman first presented to the author's office in July 1997. She had a long history of various otologic problems, beginning in 1963 with a 4-day period of tinnitus and aural fullness in the left ear. A few months later, when she was 3 months into her first pregnancy, she experienced another episode of tinnitus in the left ear, which was accompanied by left-sided hearing loss, rotary vertigo, nausea, and vomiting; this episode lasted several days and resolved spontaneously.
