Apr. 30--These names speak of 126 years of service to their county:
Gen. William (Bill) Kirk, former Commander in Chief U.S. Air Forces Europe;
Major Gen. Walter (Bennie) Putnam, former Commander Southern-North American Air Defense Command;
Col. James (Jim) Shambo, late Base Commander at Eglin Air Force Base; and
Chief Master Sgt. Clyde Wood, late 30-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force Veterinarian Service.
What they all have in common now is that through a $48,000 gift to the Okaloosa-Walton College Foundation, the Eglin Air Force Association College Scholarship Foundation selected the four airmen, not because of rank but ...
