OKEENE -- Folks in Okeene are proud of their snake hunt. Here, rattlesnake hunting is as popular as Friday night football.
For almost seven decades, hunters have been catching snakes in the gypsum hills west of town and selling them at Okeene's Rattlesnake Roundup, a three-day festival which begins Friday for the 67th consecutive year.
For each of those 67 years, there has been a Felder involved. Anthony Felder Sr., 77, and son, Anthony (Tony) Felder Jr., 38, are surveyors in Okeene and snake hunters.
