Canine urolithiasis is a disease marked by the formation of small stones (uroliths) in a dog's urinary tract. These stones can develop in the upper tract--the kidneys and the ureters, slender tubes that transport urine from the kidneys to the lower tract. They can also develop in the lower tract, which is made up of the bladder, a muscular sac that receives the urine delivered to it through the ureters, and the urethra, a tube that transports urine from the bladder through the penis in males and the vulva in females for excretion from the body.
