The author of this magnificent book, Jeanne Shami, shot to international scholarly fame with her discovery in December 1992 that the anonymously catalogued British Library MS Royal 17. B. XX was a rare contemporaneous scribal copy of John Donne's 1622 Gunpowder Plot sermon.
