The bidding started at $77,000. Soon, the action was fast and furious between seven bidders during a William H. Bunch Auctions event last year. At $96,000, two phone bidders from New York and Florida duked it out. Finally, a Floridian claimed the prize: a Tiffany Studios "curtain border" floor lamp with a gilt-bronze stand and pigtail finial. The price: $126,560, a new record for that design (see p. 13).
That bidding war is just one indicator of the current craze over Tiffany Studios lamps. The picture wasn't so bright, however, in the early 1990s. At the time, the market for glass lamps "was a bit soft," says Antiques Road show appraiser Arlie Sulka of Lillian ...
