THERE are certain criteria that define a stately home. It's much more than mere bricks and mortar.
Obviously, a grand house is the foundation, but the description of "stately" also requires a famous name with a long history, an accumulated collection of artworks, a surrounding parkland and estate to provide a suitable setting.
