Early education gathers political momentum and research support.(Funding)

Florida recently announced that it will be linking teacher pay to student achievement as a way of boosting academic performance. Another way to work toward that goal is to offer quality pre-school programs. Some states are moving toward universal pre-school and research shows that early education provides concrete, though not miraculous, results. The National Governors Association reports that of the governors who have given their state of the state speeches this year, 68 percent have spoken about expanding availability of pre-school, up from 43 percent last year. Florida, Georgia, and Oklahoma already offer pre-kindergarten programs to all four year olds.
