May 3--Coming soon to a television near you: John Wayne and Bette Davis as you've never seen them. Wayne emerges as a gracious performer constantly derided by his greatest director, John Ford, in a PBS documentary that debuts May 10. Davis is depicted as a towering talent plagued by alcoholism, insecurity and a demanding mother in a TCM profile that premieres tonight. Both programs aim to renew interest in these legendary stars shortly before Warner Home Video releases DVD sets of their films.
