May 3--Opponents of Pataskala's income-tax issue outnumbered supporters at the polls yesterday.
About 59 percent of voters rejected the tax, according to unofficial results from the Licking County Board of Elections.
The 1.5 percent income tax would have raised about $1.4 million for Pataskala's deteriorating streets.
"I think it's pretty clear that this is going to go to a defeat," Mayor Steve Butcher said as results began to come in. "When you ask people to get into their pockets and trust you, that takes a pretty big leap of faith."
