May 3--WATERLOO --- Driving like a maniac? Getting poor gas mileage? Guess what? The two are related.

As gas prices creep back up near $3 per gallon, drivers are looking to improve gas mileage.

Brad Reeves, assistant manager at Tuffy Auto Service Center in Waterloo, said driving habits are a huge factor.

According to automotive information Web site Edmunds.com, aggressive drivers can improve gas mileage by about 31 percent by switching to a more moderate style. That means breaking earlier on stops and not punching the gas pedal to accelerate.
